Southern Manitoba was battered by heavy rain and powerful winds Friday night, but the weekend forecast shows the storm will blow over just in time for the long weekend.
Environment Canada has lifted weather warnings across the southern region, including Winnipeg, Steinbach, and Brandon, as the storm system exits the province.
Manitobans can expect a mix of sun and cloud for Saturday and Sunday, with a high of 28 C both days. Monday, the first day of the long weekend, is expected to reach a high of 26 C, with a chance of showers in the afternoon.
The storm brought strong winds and heavy rain to southern Manitoba Friday night. Manitoba Hydro reported more than 15,000 customers without power at the height of the storm, but crews worked through the night to restore service to most areas.
There were no reports of any serious injuries or damage from the storm. However, the City of Winnipeg closed several parks and trails due to flooding and downed trees.
The long weekend is expected to be busy for Manitobans, with many people planning to travel to cottages, campgrounds, and provincial parks.
