News and Biographical Information

Sam Darnold was born on June 5, 1997, in Dana Point, California. He played football at San Clemente High School, where he was a star quarterback. Darnold led San Clemente to three league championships and was named the Orange County Player of the Year in 2014. He was also named a Parade All-American and an EA Sports All-American.

After graduating from high school, Darnold enrolled at the University of Southern California. He started for the Trojans for three seasons and led them to a Pac-12 Championship in 2016. Darnold was also named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2016 and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.

Darnold declared for the NFL Draft after his junior season at USC. He was selected by the Jets with the No. 3 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Darnold started for the Jets for three seasons but was traded to the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He is currently the starting quarterback for the Panthers.
